NAP 2018 will support industry transformation – Najib

The updated National Automotive Policy (NAP) 2018, which will be unveiled sometime in the third quarter of the year, will continue to support the transformation of the automotive industry and help drive the country’s economy to a higher level, said caretaker prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

He said that policies and regulations must be reviewed and streamlined in order to realise this vision. “The holistic involvement encompassing ‘stakeholders’, including ministries, automotive industry agencies and youths, is important for planning and implementing the same strategic direction, while enhancing the competitiveness of the country’s automotive industry,” he said at the launch of the Malaysia Autoshow 2018 yesterday.

He added that the transformation would only be possible if Barisan National is given the mandate to continue administering the country, Bernama reports.

“Benefits from the review of the NAP can only be achieved through the continuation of the government under my administration. With the achievement of progress and presence of futuristic elements in the transportation system, the people will enjoy benefits in terms of efficiency, productivity improvement and technological development,” he stated.

Najib said the ministry of international trade and industry (MITI) and the Malaysia Automotive Institute (MAI) had already begun the review of the country’s automotive policy. The NAP 2018 update will focus on four key pillars, namely new generation vehicles, mobility, the Industry 4.0 revolution and artificial intelligence.

He added that it was the aspiration of the government to ensure that the national automotive industry continued to grow to be more sophisticated. “We hope that the aspiration of Malaysians to own electrical cars, to enjoy self-driven cars as well as flying cars will be achievable one day,” he stated.

MAI got lots of visions. But end of the day, all car companies go to Thailand and invest USD Billions in Thailand.

Already 20 over years car companies are going to Thailand and investing USD Billions whilst MAI still showing diagrams and charts and seminars everyday

Our cars sold in Malaysia, some of them don’t even have ABS and VSC.

ABS was made compulsory law in Europe 20 years ago. VSC was made compulsory law in Europe 15 years ago.

Basic pun tak ada…..we want to do AI. Seriously?

Yeah. Definitely not for the coalition that is only interested in maintaining the status quo that will allow them to continue to enrich themselves and make the rakyat suffer.

don’t think so because “aspiration of Malaysians (is) to own electrical cars, to enjoy self-driven cars as well as flying cars”, not to own inexpensive cars

according to mahresia driver and motorcyclist unique driving habits, self-driven cars will encountered error 404 and malfunction immediately. Meanwhile we might get flying car maybe from P2 model code name Aulahdin aka flying carpet…LOL

It’s a good thing that local cars have improved safety ratings today compared to the past. Please make it mandatory for all cars to be installed with (at least) a front recorder to catch all traffic offenders.

Enhancing competitiveness, any chance that tax will reduce further on foreign cars? If technology is key, then hopefully we can see local cars adopting world class technological features. 360 camera could be one.

    • Remember when Vios starts equipping their car with 360 camera? Pipu start condemning it and say it’s useless. Just add special skirting like the Saga or Persona is better

well. at least all persona, and iriz.. cars that are much cheaper than a vios have VSC as standard.. with the iriz having it across all ranges since 2015 and the vios only introducing it in 2016 after being in the market for quite a long time.
