Datuk Seri Syed Zainal Abidin has been named the new managing director and CEO of Petronas Dagangan Berhad (PDB), according to The Star. The former Proton and COMOS boss will assume the position at the national oil and gas company’s retail business effective June 1, the company reportedly stated on Friday.
He will replace Datuk Mohd Ibrahimnuddin Mohd Yunus who is resigning due to “staff mobility within the Petronas Group.” The Edge reported that he will also be redesignated from a non-executive director to an executive director, according to a company filing with Bursa Malaysia.
Syed Zainal is currently the vice president of downstream marketing at Petronas, and is also the chairman and director of various subsidiaries within the Petronas Group. Prior to becoming Proton’s group managing director from 2006 to 2012, he was Perodua’s deputy managing director.
