2018 Honda EX5 cub in new colours – from RM5,150

Legendary Malaysian motorcycle, the 2018 Honda EX5 kapchai is updated for the new year in new colours, and priced at RM4,859 for the kickstart version in Pearl Magellanic Black and Pearl Nightfall Blue with spoked wheels. Meanwhile, the electric start Honda EX5 comes in Pearl Nightfall Blue, Space Magenta Metallic and Candy Scintillated Red with cast wheels and can be had for RM5,404.

Prices include GST but exclude insurance, road tax and registration. With the updated EX5 designed to attract a younger customer demographic, Boon Siew Honda has sold over 2 million EX5 models in Malaysia since its launch in 1987.

The EX5 is powered by a air-cooled, single-cylinder, OHC engine that displaces 109.17 cc and is claimed to produce 8.35 hp at 7,500 rpm and 8.4 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm. A four-speed constant mesh gearbox with wet centrifugal clutch gets power to the ground.

Fuel from the 4.3-litre tank is fed to the engine by Honda’s PGM-Fi and suspension is with telescopic forks in front and dual shock absorbers in the back adjustable for pre-load. Both the electric and kick start versions of the EX5 come with drum brakes front and rear.

New graphics adorn the front fairing, tail piece and side covers with chrome emblem and passenger grab rail underscoring the retro look of the EX5. Weight for the 2018 Honda EX5 is claimed to be 97 kg for the spoked wheel version, while the cast wheel model weighs in at 99 kg and deliveries are expected to arrive at authorised Honda dealers this week.

Engine if not mistaken made in taiwan, elsewhere in thai

Only high end model made in japan

Manufacturing in thailand is cheaper in long term than manufacturing in japan

Can the ugly turn signal be integrated back into the rear light as it used to be…the turn signal tend to be broken easily by pillion rider. And can Boon Siew Honda reintroduced the all chrome exhaust for this new ex5 as it used to be too.Old ex5 was a superb beauty and simply the best.

It is a new regulations that the signal must be a certain width between left and right.

There’s probably a regulation that requires a minimum spacing between the turn indicators.

Lately,I saw BSH keep recycle the same model with new colour only. Meanwhile other country got new kapchai like super cub in thailand and new wave 125i in vietnam. Why they didn,t bother to bring in here?

    • Mesia will get the super cub when are all other asean countries have them. Honda will give mesia the last because the market is relatively small for them.

i don’t like new ex5, stupid design, too soft not suitable for macho man, only good for pondan. old ex5 look rugged with gross design. old ex5 should be return back with powerful 135cc engine with front disk brakes as. a tribute for Malaysian for support ex5 all this while.

Type your comment here..I bought ex5 2017 sport rim model & regret it. Every gear shift come with loud knock sound & gear cannot shift down when bike is idling & stationary. What make it worst is there is no gear indicator. always start with wrong gear.

I bought Ex5 FI 30th Years Anniversary in Jan 2018 and mileage until January 2019 – 4600km. 1 year and got problem twice. According to mechanic there’s a problem with engine system or ecu (im not sure and i dont care as long as the bike were under warranty. BUT twice in one year? This bike bring bad reputation to Ex5 Fuel Injection. Selling cheap now.
