The Road Transport Department (RTD/JPJ) has revealed that it will not hesitate to take action on those who purposely stop their vehicles to perform the ‘Keke Challenge’ on public roads.

According to a Berita Harian report, JPJ director Datuk Seri Shaharuddin Khalid said his team will refer to the constitution of the law, and will take necessary measures against those (particularly the younger generation) who perform this potentially hazardous act.

“Such an act [the dance] is certainly not permitted. We will take action against those who break the rules, and this includes causing potential danger to other road users as well. In fact, we won’t be the only one to act on it – the traffic police force will also issue a fine to whoever is caught in the act,” he told the press during a recent visit to the immigration complex in Bukit Kayu Hitam.

To the uninitiated, the Keke Challenge requires a person to jump out of a slow-moving car and almost immediately perform a dance move to the tune of a song titled ‘In My Feelings’ by Canadian rapper Drake. The dance was made popular by comedian Shiggy and was later performed by the likes of Will Smith, Ciara and several other high profile individuals.

The silly trend also caught on locally, where a number of artists have posted videos of themselves doing the challenge on their respective Instagram accounts. What a funny time to be alive, isn’t it? Whatever the case, guys, please desist from carrying out such an act on public roads. It’s just not worth the risk.
