Hong Leong Yamaha Malaysia SST price list updated

Following the implementation of Sales and Service Tax (SST), Hong Leong Yamaha Malaysia has released an updated price list and the good news is except for three models, prices are unchanged from zero-rated Goods and Services Tax (GST) days. This means pricing for most Yamaha motorcycles in Malaysia drops by 5.66%.

Its biggest capacity models in the Malaysia market, the Yamaha MT-09 and MT-09 Tracer, go up by 3.77% after adding SST. This means the MT-09 naked sports now goes for RM48,920, while the MT-09 Tracer adventure-tourer retails at RM53,681.

SST set at 6% but price went up by 3.77%. How did they reach this figure, nobody knows. SST is like a mystery blackhole.

SST is not multi layer tax, it is not tax at selling price but at purchase cost, eg Cost 1000, profit 1000, the selling price with sst 10% will be 2100 & not 2200. Correct me if I m wrong.

Sales tax is charged at the point of sales, meaning 6% (as fixed by the Gomen) of the selling price, added. But now it is only 3.77%. How did the arrive at this figure?

The long standing problem for Kapchais is the end price by the dealers. It was never being regulated by the Authorities. It’s becoming a highly traded commodity item – price were determined by Supply and Demand. Every time the Manufacturer revise the price, there is no changes on the end price to the buyers whatsoever.

We Malaysians mostly forget the power of customers. Most of these cases are not reported, thus unknown by the authorities. Not on their side though, but we do need to realise the importance of our responsibility as well.

For 250cc and below, GST is 6% and SST is Nil.
        GST price = 100% + 6% = 106%.
With removing of 6% GST, the effective price change % become -ve 5.66% (6%/106%) instead of 6% using 106% as a base.
For above 250cc models, the SST rate is 10% instead of 6%. So the effective price change % compared to GST price = +ve 3.77% (4%/106%) instead of 4% up using 106% as a base.
