Subaru is on the same page as Toyota by saying that a next-generation BRZ is “definitely going to happen.” This comes after an earlier report from Japan that claims the Toyobaru twins will be axed altogether.
Subaru USA spokesman Ron Kinno told Carscoops, “we do not endorse this report coming from Japan’s Best Car. We are moving ahead with a next-generation Subaru BRZ, but have no further details at this time.”
So, with both Toyota and Subaru saying that the 86 and BRZ will live on for the foreseeable future, the next thing on everyone’s mind is if both companies will work together again on their sports car replacements.
As claimed in a previous report, both companies have decided on different development policies with their sports cars, with talk of a mid-engined model on the cards – a possible new MR2 for Toyota and a mysterious model for Subaru.

BRZ facelift for another ten years?
Not so mysterious…
Reading between the lines, BRZ is “definitely happening” only it might not be codeveloped with Toyota. OTOH, Subaru USA doesn’t represent Subaru HQ, there is a certain disconnect between Japan automakers and many of their USA outfits. They don’t seem to be aware of their HQ direction. One such is Toyota USA still adamant that TRD is still a performance arm of Toyota when their global team have switched to Gazoo Racing. Laughable really.
