The launch of the G20 BMW 3 Series also saw a surprise appearance by the G29 BMW Z4 – the third-generation drop-top is being previewed here ahead of its official introduction in May.
The show unit is a M40i variant, as seen in our earlier post on the car from the Bangkok Motor Show. The M Performance model isn’t going to be introduced in Malaysia, however. We’ll be getting the sDrive 30i, and pricing for that one is estimated at RM460,000. Comparatively, it’s priced at 3.999 million baht (RM510,533) in Thailand.
The M40i is equipped with a 3.0 litre straight-six petrol motor offering 340 hp and 500 Nm. Performance figures for this one include a 0-100 km/h time of 4.5 seconds and a 250 km/h top speed.
Tech novelties include an adaptive M Sport suspension, M Sport brakes, an M Sport locking rear differential and a Launch Control function. The variant also features an M-specific shift characteristic geared to the straight-six engine’s power delivery.
The Z4 30i is powered by a 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, with 258 hp and 400 Nm in the way of output. It’ll do the 0-100 km/h sprint in 5.4 seconds, while top speed is electronically capped at 250 km/h. In both models, the partnering transmission is a ZF eight-speed auto ‘box, driving the rear wheels.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
So expensive. At RM460k, it is ridiculous. Truly, we have the most expensive car prices in the world.
I would rather by this than the rebadge called Supra. This is the original, the rebadge is a cheap clone.
I trust German made quality, I don’t trust Japanese quality with so many the problems being discovered worldwide.
If I can afford for these kind of sportscars, I would rather pay the extra and get the Z4 because of superior German quality and brand value. People will understand paying Rm500k for a BMW, but think I must be insane or stupid to pay Rm300k for a Toyota rebadge.
Japanese cars are reliable. German cars masuk workshop every 3 or 4 weeks
Not when the Japanese car share the same engine & gearbox with the German car, but none of the brand prestige.
I really know what are you going to do next, Mr Nissan Salesman. One day you will see, when Nissan Xtrail launch in few weeks later, then you will see all Ex-Nissan Owners will sure talk badmouth about Nissan in every Nissan articles. Moreover, you also come here to talk badmouth about Proton, Toyota and Mercedes and Volvo as well. So don’t think I don’t know what are you doing.

Anyway guys, pls read my second statement but don’t read my first statement cause I didn’t check the sentences just now.
Nissan sales are doing very well because Nissan X Trail is 7 seater.
What does Nissan X-trail have to do with BMW Z4? An SUV comparing with a roadster? Are Nissan salesmen so desperate nowadays?
You must be haven’t driven any BMW, it was not built for last as the Japanese. And to me, Supra definitely looks more excited than this. Badge aside, taste is another story.
If you driven one A90 supra, then u will know its a different kind of thing. it has totally different characteristic although they have similar engine and gear box. Its not always Japanese car that are shit, look at the rebadge Mercedes X-class, its a Navara.
You can get a Japanese car with many spare parts around and you won’t be worry if *touchwood it breaks down, or you can get a Germany/Euro car with high reliability and pray for it not to breakdown as you might need to wait for 3-6months for the parts to arrive.
Well again, wait till you experience owning both first.
U SIR CLEARLY AINT HAVE ANY CLUE WHAT U ARE TALKING ABOUT .
supra aint a rebadge.. they just share the same dirvetrain…
so what now? a saab is a rebadged subaru? mclaren is nissan ka ? so audi is vW?
Anything is expensive when we cant afford it.
RM510k so high in Thailand. Cars and Kangkung much cheaper here. Syukurr pipu
When you can’t afford it, you work harder. Instead you complain.
Plenty of others work hard to afford for things they want, they don’t sit behind a screen and complain. Complaining won’t get you your dreams, you work hard for it.
Car price getting more and more expensive….
But if u want get attention and can’t afford i8 and 8 series, this is a bargain
A convertible for a country where nobody wants a convertible.
That’s cheaper than the previous 28i Z4
Nice to meet you bro!
I rather to have you than this
Then Supra A90, the twin brother will cost around 300k. Need to take into consideration the price to be higher than Toyota 86 as Supra is higher range than 86.
Wait until the Supra launches with the same engine used from the M40i which we will not get.
is that a merc headlamp?
so its the bmw supra? or toyota z4
Greedy UMWT will sell their Supra above RM550K.
Recon 718 Boxster territory. Plausible if they sell around 450k. Anything higher cannot compete as BMW lose their value faster than anything else. It only takes 3 years to wipe out 50% to 40% value. Porsche do hold their value slightly better and will be the clincher for buyer’s decision.
Styling better than Supra IMHO.
I feels like I’m in Chris Bangle era by looking at the front, so unBMW. They’d lost the design direction again
Although the new Supra doesn’t seems to be carry it’s legacy, but I think the Supra is a better looking car than the z4 IMO.
Thats price is utterly outrageous.
In the UK a Z4 30i M Sport comes in a 7% more expensive than a 330i M Sport
Here BMW Malaysia plans to charge 40% more than the already overpriced 330i. Profiteering much?!?
