February 2019 Malaysian vehicle sales down by 18%

The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) has released sales and production figures for the month of February 2019, and no surprise to see that sales were down from that achieved in January.

A total of 39,838 vehicles were delivered in February, which is 8,612 units or 18% less than the 48,450 units managed in January. The numbers for the month were also lower than the corresponding period in 2018, although not by much.

However, the total industry volume (TIV) for the first two months of the year has a higher year-to-date figure than that of 2018, at 88,288 units compared to the previous year’s 85,123 units.

According to the association, the lower sales figure was due to the short working month brought about by the Chinese New Year festive holiday period. The projection for March is expected to be better, with a longer working month and an expected rush for deliveries by auto companies having their financial year ending on March 31.

What is more interesting is the fact, Proton sales remain the same as last year (as if there was no Proton X70)

This is because Proton Exora, Iriz and Persona buyers have migrated to buy the Proton X70.

So, end of the day, Proton sales this year might be the SAME or slightly more than last year.

How to make money like this?

Where are all the Proton fanboys who action saying Proton got 21,000 orders?

Yes, 21,000 orders for Proton X70 but super bad sales for Persona, Saga, Iriz and Exora

End of the day, back to square one

      • What about your Perodua that told us they have 13,000 bookings but only can deliver 4,000 cars? Were your Perodua lying to us? If they can only deliver 3,000 out of 17,000 sales last month, it means Aruz is not pulling in the Rm70,000 market segment customers. Your Perodua continue to rely on the lower segment volume game which have very little profit margins. This unlike Proton and their X70 which is increasingly pulling in the more affluent market segments. As of now, it is the market segment leader for SUV sales, and this is where more profit margins can be made. This round I would have to say, Aruz have failed badly and Perodua have lost this round.

So shameful, Toyota sales are now near SAME SAME as Proton.

How can this be? People say Toyota so expensive and dinosaur.

Now the King of Dupes and King of Trolls keeping quiet.

There is no point to explain the concept of supply and demand to a kindergarten level mentality.

    • So you’re telling us that Proton customers have moved upmarket and now they are willing to pay 2x or 3x the prices they used to pay for a Proton and with that, increasing the profit margin as well? What’s so bad about that?
