Touch n Go RFID fitment now at 9 malls, just walk-in

Note to self: Get RFID done. If like me, you missed out on the Touch n Go RFID pilot programme last year, here’s your chance. TnG is now accepting walk-ins at nine fitment centres across the Klang Valley, offering RFID tag fitment for free.

Before this, one had to register online and wait for an invitation email from TnG. Once received, he/she proceeds to a fitment centre to get it done. Now, one can just go straight to a fitment centre without an appointment.

Car owners are required to bring their IC and a copy of it, driver’s license (or passport for non-Malaysians), and a copy of the vehicle ownership certificate or valid insurance cover note.

As explained before, RFID is linked to the user’s Touch n Go e-wallet account, but the RFID on someone else’s car can be linked to your e-wallet. In such a case, the vehicle owner must provide an authorisation letter authorising the RFID registration and for it to be linked to your TnG e-wallet account. The letter template is available on the TnG RFID registration portal.

The RFID sticker, which is embedded with a radio frequency chip, will be affixed on your car’s windscreen or headlamp. It is unique to each vehicle, weather and tamper-proof. Drive into the RFID lane and toll fares will be auto deducted from your e-wallet. Balance viewing and top-ups can be performed on the app, via online banking and credit/debit cards.

New RFID users will get a 20% rebate on their first 10 toll trips until June 30. The walk-in fitment outlets are open from 10am to 10pm at the following locations:

  • Aeon Big Bukit Rimau, Shah Alam
  • Aeon Big, Kepong
  • Berjaya Times Square, KL
  • Empire Shopping Gallery, Subang Jaya
  • Sunway Velocity Mall, Cheras
  • Tesco, Pusat Bandar Puchong
  • Tesco Extra, Cheras
  • Tesco, Setia Alam
  • Tesco Bukit Tinggi, Klang

In September 2018, we were part of the first batch of Touch n Go RFID users. For a full explanation on how the system works, the installation process and a demo video, click here.

  • Putting the RFID at the headlamp is just plain stupid. Makes it prone to being vandalised

If TNG cannot make it work on the windscreen then don’t launch it.

It is only marginally better than the smart tag system and far inferior to SG system that does not require any slowing down of the car

Mine is on the windscreen outside. So far not vandalised despite sometimes parking at “shady” places. The fear about it being vandalised is just overhyped.

SG transponders aren’t any better than Smart Tag since the box requires power from the battery. Try having to replace the car battery every year, you will cry I tell you. The best system I have seen is in Australia whereby the transponder chip is located at the number plate. All charges and tracking can be done seamlessly without the driver noticing.

Touch and Go can do all the latest things in town but still have surcharge on parking rates.

    This is 3rd world mentality

What to do when car park operators are money minded instead of looking at the greater good? This surcharge should have been included into their parking charges but they wanted more. Greedy 3rd world mentality of businesses only looking for small profits.

  • RFID still need to stop for detection. Now share lanes with TNG/Smartag. Shud emulate system in Singapore.

  • Touch & Go RFID is good? I challenge you Touch & Go, if my car can go smoothly pass 3 tolls without issue I will give you RM500 for installation! Dare to take the challenge? Dare to reply me in public?

I installed RFID about 3 weeks ago and I do find that it is actually not of any advantage to Smart Tag. My car has to practically stop at the boom gate before the RFID can read and deduct the toll fees. I thought the RFID would be a new technology where the car can zoom pass easily and the reader can read the toll charges. as it turns out, it is much slower than the smart tag. So are the advantages of RFID and why bother to install when it is so slow and causing more jam at the RFID lane. Why are you not replying if you continue to say I have made similar comments before

So far I’ve tested the pilot program, it works actually for my car. installed at the windshield. had a few hiccup at certain toll where actually need to get closer to boom gate. other than that smooth and faster than smart tag

  • Since it is installed outside (on the windscreen), would it be prone to being stolen?
