Ducati Hypermotard 950 Concept wins show prize

Shown at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Italy, the 2019 Ducati Hypermotard 950 Concept has won the show prize for ‘Concept Bikes: New Design and Prototypes by Manufacturers and Independents’ category. Based on the base model Hypermotard 950, the 950 Concept was created by Centro Stile Ducati, it’s styling and design department.

The base model Hypermotard is intended to be an aggressive and hard-edged urban motorcycle and the 950 Concept takes that a step further. This is seen in the MotoGP inspired styling as well as the graphics that takes cues from urban street graffiti.

Awarded the prize by the jury, the 950 Concept also garnered a lot of interest on social media when photos were first released. “Style concepts are useful also for presenting new elements, in this case the graphic design in particular, and for evaluating the reactions they inspire. We’re extremely pleased with the success it’s inspired on the social networks,” said Andrea Ferraresi, director of Centro Stile Ducati.

Carrying the 937 cc Testastretta 11 V-twin, the Hypermotard 950 puts out 114 hp at 9,000 rpm and 96 Nm of torque at 7,250 rpm. With a six-speed transmission, Marzocchi suspension and Brembo brakes, the Hypermotard 950 has its roots in the Supermotard racing class, popular in Europe.

No word from Ducati as to whether the Hypermotard 950 Concept might make it to the market, though its graphics scheme makes a change from Ducati’s traditional stripes and bands. In Malaysia the 2018 Ducati Hypermotard 939 retails for approximately RM71,900 while the more touring oriented Hyperstrada 939 goes for RM74,899.
