SPIED: 2020 Audi RS Q3 to get up to 400 PS, 480 Nm?

The second-generation Audi RS Q3 has been caught undergoing test runs at the Nürburgring once more, and it looks like an official launch will be taking place soon, going by the amount of camouflage it has shed. The high-performance Audi SUV will go directly against the Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 4Matic, and it’s possible that the Q3 Sportback could also receive the full-fat RS treatment.

Just like the outgoing RS Q3, the next-generation model will receive a highly boosted 2.5 litre inline-fix engine that’s apparently fettled to produce 400 PS and 480 Nm of torque. That’s a considerable jump, even when compared to the existing RS Q3 performance‘s output of 367 hp and 465 Nm.

Sources say that the new RS Q3 will sail through the zero to 100 km/h sprint in 4.0 seconds, which is a decent improvement over its predecessor’s 4.4-second record. Expect the top speed to be electronically capped at 250 km/h, though this can potentially be raised to 280 km/h through a performance upgrade pack.

As with all Audi RS models, one can expect the typical aggressive-looking exterior styling, with the front sporting large intakes and a huge hexagonal Singleframe grille. LED headlights should be standard, whereas wheel options could range from the standard 19-inch set to optional 21-inch hoops. The rear will get the signature Audi RS dual oval exhaust tips.

Inside, the RS Q3 looks set to get an assortment of RS trims and badging, sport seats, and a sportier steering wheel. The 12.3-inch Audi virtual cockpit will get RS-specific graphics and dials, while the rest of the cabin, which includes the 10.1-inch MMI touch display, are to be carried over wholesale.

Expect the usual creature comforts to be present as well. This includes LTE and WiFi hotspot functions, GPS navigation, and possibly a more advanced stereo system – the current range-topping Q3 gets a 15-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system with 3D audio.

In terms of safety, it should get adaptive cruise control with adaptive speed assist, traffic jam assist, active lane assist, as well as a 360-degree around-view camera and park assist.
