Mitsubishi announces investment deal with Gojek

Mitsubishi Motors, Mitsubishi Corporation and Mitsubishi UFJ Lease & Finance have announced plans to invest in Indonesia-based Gojek, which runs an on-demand multi-service platform in its home country, as well as in Vietnam (Go-Viet) and Thailand (GET). Through a mobile app, Gojek provides users access to transportation, food delivery, e-payment and others, similar to what we have here with Grab.

The parties have since signed a memorandum of understanding to discuss collaborative projects for new mobility services in Southeast Asia, but have yet to disclose any financial terms. As this is still the early stage of the partnership, exact details about any potential projects are still unknown as well.

“Gojek is proud to be partnering with Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) and Mitsubishi Corporation. Both companies have a long-standing track records in delivering reliable and quality products, services, and technology to customers around the world,” said Andre Soelistyo, president of Gojek Group.

Such a move echoes Toyota’s current partnership with Grab, which has seen several billion dollars being invested over the years, along with other tie-ups. Mitsubishi Corporation is an existing Gojek investor, as it previously participated in the first close of Gojek’s Series F funding round back in February.

Mitsubishi announces investment deal with Gojek

Deal Street Asia reports that Gojek is seeking an additional USD2 billion in equity and debt financing to fully close out the Series F round. This will help in its aggressive expansion in three regional markets – Vietnam, Singapore and Thailand – with interest in extending its services to Malaysia, Myanmar and Cambodia this year.

“We are also truly excited to be a strategic partner. Bringing Mitsubishi Motors and Mitsubishi Corporation’s long and strong presence and brand power in Southeast Asia, as well as Gojek’s diversified and unique business potentials together, we foresee creation of big synergies and innovation that boost growth of the three parties,” commented Osamu Masuko, chairman of Mitsubishi Motors.

“We believe that the accumulation of know-how of new mobility services that are rapidly spreading in the region and the opportunity to enter the market will contribute to the growth of the Southeast Asian market in the future,” he continued.

I wish we had Mitsubishi Protons around. Pity we cerai Mitsubishi. Their engines were so good. Proton went downhill when they started their own Campro engines.

If only we were partners with Mistubishi, today, the Outback and Outlander will be here as Protons.

Mitsubishi cut ties with Proton because Proton workers could not understand the subject matter at hand. Mitsubishi tried so hard to transfer technology but our workers “tak paham”

Outback and Outlander sucks. Coming with ancient 4B engines that is 15 years old and they still dare to sell it at such prices without any active safety systems. Ever wondered why Outlander still can’t outsell CRV? This is the reason why. And to compare with Proton’s offering? Sorrylah! Outlander is miles below it.

X70 is not a Proton car. It is entirely made by Geely. Proton can only make CamPro engines which are outdated today

        • Does it matter? Mitsubishi are the same, heck even worse.
They had no new cars in 10 years. All their current models are outdated using outdated engines today.
Even Campro is better, having seen an evolutionary path from standard one, to CPS, to CFE Turbo, to VVT, and who knows if there is another evolution yet.

X70 is not a Proton car as much as all Perodua cars does not belong to them. Yeah so what?

Proton now is just a rebadger and reseller.

Perodua is a rebadger but at least they make billions in clean profit each year and pays company tax to the Government every year

Proton is exempt from paying company tax the past 20 years.

They don’t care about lives. They only care about how much profits they can reap.

We are discussing about Go-Jek and why derail to Proton?

By the way, Go Jek is completely and creating a huge traffic to Jakarta. If any of us been to Jakarta, you will see a lot of Go-jek park at the road side waiting for customer. Not only that, they use shortcuts and break the traffic rules. Instead of help to reduce traffic congestion, it create more traffic congestion.

With current problem and motorcycles travelling on highway in Malaysia, and introduction of Go-Jek in the city, KL will become another Jakarta or Ho Chin Minh city.
