With the introduction of the Pagani Huayra Roadster and BC in recent years, it was only a matter of time before the Modenese put the two together. The Huayra Roadster BC, then, takes the hardcore recipe of the latter and lops off the roof for some open-topped motoring nirvana – but not before adding yet more power.

How much more? Try 791 hp, an increase of 40 hp from the redeveloped Mercedes-AMG 6.0 litre twin-turbocharged V12, made at 5,900 rpm. Torque has also been upped slightly, to a towering 1,050 Nm from 2,000 to 5,600 rpm – all of which is sent to the rear wheels through an Xtrac seven-speed sequential gearbox. This single-clutch transmission is 35% lighter than the dual-clutch unit of its rivals, Pagani claims.

As you can see, weight – or rather, the lack of it – is an important part of the Roadster BC, as the boutique Italian supercar maker has worked hard to offset the penalty of dropping the top. The monocoque is rich in composite materials, such as carbo-titanium HP62 G2 and carbo-triax HP62 that are not only phenomenally light but also super stiff. The result is a dry weight of 1,250 kg, just 32 kg more than the BC coupé.

Suspension consists of forged aluminium alloy double wishbones with electronic dampers, while the new APP forged alloy wheels measure 20 inches at the front and 21 at the rear, shod in Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tyres. So equipped, the Roadster BC is capable of lateral acceleration of up to 1.9 g in the corners. The brakes are massive Brembo carbon ceramic discs clamped by six-piston callipers at the front and four at the rear.

Like the BC, the Roadster’s aerodynamic package has been completely revised, with a series of flics, scoops, splitters and that massive, intricate rear wing atop the standard Huayra’s stunningly elegant body. Pagani says that the car is capable of delivering 500 kg of downforce at 280 km/h.

Just 40 units of the Roadster BC will ever be built, and if you’re looking to buy one your wallet better be flush: it retails at €3,085,000 (RM11.1 million) before taxes.
