2020 Honda Civic Si Coupe and Sedan debut in the US

The Honda Civic Si Coupe and Sedan have been updated for the 2020 model year (MY20) in the United States, which changes to the models’ styling and available equipment.

On the exterior, both the sedan and coupe now sport a new front end that is almost identical to the latest Civic Hatchback revealed recently. The revised lower apron features fog lamp housings with gloss black trim and a body-coloured crossbar, while the honeycomb mesh that was previously used has been replaced with a more subtle black panel instead.

Other changes include a reshaped “wing” upper grille flanked by multi-element LED headlamps, as well as new LED fog lamps. As for the rear, the Si Sedan mimics the changes at the front, including the decorative “blades,” while the Si Coupe remains unchanged from before. All Civic Si models are fitted with a matte black 18-inch wheels of a new design as standard.

Moving inside, both cars get new sport seats with red accents on the seat bottom and seat back, with more red highlights seen on the trim near the instrument panel. Also new is Active Sound Control, a feature that uses the audio system to enhance the engine sound during spirited driving.

The changes come on top of interior upgrades made for the 2019 model year (MY19), which includes an updated Display Audio system with physical buttons and a volume knob, bigger cupholders and an updated electronic parking brake with an indicator light.

A big addition to the Civic Si for MY20 is the standard Honda Sensing suite of safety and driver assistance systems that include Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW).

No changes to the powertrain, with the VTEC Turbo 1.5 litre four-cylinder continuing to put out 205 hp at 5,700 rpm and 260 Nm of torque from 2,100 to 5,000 rpm. The Civic Si, being the performance version of the model, just below the Civic Type R, comes exclusively with a six-speed manual.

One revision for MY20 is the adoption of a shorter final-drive ratio for more responsive acceleration, at the expense of fuel economy. The MY19 cars had an EPA-rated fuel consumption of 7.35 l/100 km (32 mpg), while the MY20 cars are rated at 7.84 l/100 km (30 mpg). Both models are priced from US$25,000.

Civic has grown in length, width and weight. Some owners say civis become more like “ubi kayu”. The nimbleness of previous civics famous for is now gone….

Like other current Honda models, the Civic gets an impressive array of standard safety tech. Autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, road departure mitigation, and lane departure warning are standard under the Honda Sensing banner. Automatic high beams and Honda s LaneWatch sideview camera are available as optional extras. Honda is expected to discontinue LaneWatch, which uses a camera mounted on the passenger s side mirror to increase visibility, in the near future in favor of cheaper blind spot monitoring.
