Honda Civic Si sedan, coupe revealed: 205 hp, 260 Nm

The first ever turbocharged Honda Civic Si

Five months after the Honda Civic Si was previewed in prototype form, the covers have finally been pulled off the production version, which will go on sale next month in the United States in both sedan and coupé bodystyles. This will be the first time the Si will move to a turbocharged engine, albeit one that’s less powerful than the Type R version that will be marketed in America for the first time.

Under the bonnet sits the same 1.5 litre turbo four-cylinder mill as the standard Civic, but breathed on to produce 205 hp – that’s the same as the outgoing Si with a 2.4 litre K24Z7 engine, but arriving 1,300 rpm lower at 5,700 rpm. Maximum torque, on the other hand, is now up 24 Nm to 260 Nm, produced between 2,100 and 5,000 rpm. A six-speed manual is the only transmission option.

Allied to the torquier motor is a reduction of weight and an increase in body rigidity, plus a whole host of upgraded chassis and drive components. These include dual-pinion adaptive variable-ratio electric power steering, a helical limited-slip differential, larger 12.3-inch front brake discs and wider 235/40 R18 tyres, with performance tyres being offered as an option.

The suspension has also been revised with stiffer spring rates, more rigid anti-roll bars, solid front and rear compliance bushings and ultra-rigid front upper control arms shared with the Type R. There are also adaptive dampers that correspond to the new Normal and Sport drive modes, with the latter also adjusting steering and throttle response for “a more taut and direct driving experience.”

In terms of looks, the production Si is pretty much identical to the prototype, with a more aggressive front bumper from the hatch, deeper side sills, a sporty rear diffuser design with a wide centre exhaust exit and a tall boot spoiler for the coupé; the sedan gets a smaller ducktail item. The wheels measure 18 inches and feature a two-tone 10-spoke design.

Inside, there are bolstered front sports seats with red stitching and Si branding, plus aluminium gearknob and pedals, red graphics for the TFT LCD instrument display, red audio system illumination and “Dry Metal Carbon” dashboard trim.

Standard kit includes Walk Away Auto Lock, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, automatic wipers, an electronic parking brake and a Display Audio infotainment system with a seven-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, SiriusXM Radio, HD Radio and Pandora capability and a 450W, 10-speaker sound system.

In short, this is the smaller brother to the Type R Bigger brother. With 200 plus hp from the 1.5 turbo, this will give the Pug & Ford 1.6 turbo a run or as sparring partner.

Sad 2 say, it will Not make it 2 M’sia anytime soon. Maybe as a Recon later from AP holders.

This Si coupe will be the first step for those who want to enjoy performance sedan B4 the Big brother Type “R”. With 200 plus hp & manual transmission, this will be a hit with Honda fans. It will provide some choice other than the Pug GTi & Fiesta 1.6 turbo.

        Now U can trade-in your Gen2 4 a 2nd hand Type ‘R’. After that, U don’t have 2 bash car from Sushi/Jepunis

        • Actually price of TypeRs r not so bad. A kaki of mine bought 1st hand recon FD2R (2 previous gen) for same same as new FC1.5T. Deswai I said Honda fans dun bother with midspec Si when they can topup for full blown R.
But a Gen2 with CFE engine, uprate tebo, Evo wastegate, and LSD- that surpised a few many TypeR owners.

The sedan Si looks really nice and those rims are perfect for the car. The seats look very good too, with the wings for shoulder support. Very good effort.

Whats the use of turbo? Or 260 or 320 km speedometer. Come 15/4, the maximum legal speed u can go is only 110 km/h or risk your driving licence revoked.
