Car Buyer's Guide

Overview

The Honda City Hatchback is a B-segment five-seat hatchback for buyers moving up from national hatchbacks but not wanting a sedan or SUV. The facelifted GN5/GN6 model starts from RM85,900 in Malaysia, with petrol CVT variants and a petrol-hybrid e:HEV RS at the top of the range.

City Hatchback in 2026 — what's new

The Malaysian City Hatchback range carries on into 2026 unchanged from the 2024 facelift. That update brought a new petrol RS and Honda Sensing across all five variants. Phoenix Orange Pearl joined the colour palette in 2024 for petrol and e:HEV models at no extra cost. A newer facelift has been shown for Thailand in 2026 after India, but Malaysia has not received that update.

Which variant to buy

Most buyers should start with the 1.5 S at RM85,900 because every petrol City Hatchback uses the same 1.5-litre 119 hp petrol engine, CVT automatic and five-seat layout, and the facelift brings Honda Sensing to all five variants. The 1.5 E costs RM90,900, the 1.5 V RM95,900 and the 1.5 RS Petrol RM100,900; on paper, those steps pay for trim, not mechanicals. The RM112,900 1.5 e:HEV RS is the one to pick if you specifically want the petrol-hybrid powertrain.

Verdict

The City Hatchback sits in the narrow space between national hatchbacks and larger mainstream choices. Compared with a Perodua Myvi from RM46,500 and Proton Iriz from RM42,800, the Honda is clearly the pricier badge upgrade. It starts just below the Toyota Yaris at RM88,000 and stretches into BYD Dolphin and Neta V money at the top end. Its case rests on Honda Sensing and the choice of petrol or e:HEV.
