Overview
The Proton eMas 5 is a B-segment electric hatchback and Proton’s smaller EV entry after the eMas 7. Launched in 2025, it suits buyers who want a five-seat electric car in a compact footprint rather than an SUV. In Malaysia, the eMas 5 range starts from RM59,800.
For 2026, the Malaysian eMas 5 moves to CKD local assembly at Tg Malim, replacing earlier CBU China stock. A new tonneau cover is standard from June 1. The current range remains Prime and Premium, with the Premium retaining its 325 km range. Singapore also gets the eMas 5, but only in Premium form.

Which variant to buy
Most buyers should look at the Premium at RM72,800. The RM13,000 gap over the RM59,800 Prime buys the larger 40.16 kWh battery, 325 km range and 114 hp motor, instead of 30.12 kWh, 225 km and 77 hp. Both are five-seat hatchbacks with a single-ratio automatic transmission. Pick the Prime if the car is mainly for short urban trips and the lower upfront price matters most.

The eMas 5 has a simple brief: make Proton’s EV line-up more accessible with a compact hatchback below the eMas 7. The Prime starts below the Wuling Bingo at RM67,800, while the Premium costs more than the Bingo but remains well below the Neta V at RM100,000 and BYD Dolphin at RM100,530. The stronger case is the Premium, because its extra range and power are clear on paper.
