The Vision Gran Turismo project has been around for some time now, with several carmakers submitting their entries so gamers can try them out for themselves in Gran Turismo Sport. Lamborghini has joined the mix with the curiously named Lambo V12 Vision Gran Turismo, which will be virtually available from spring 2020.
Like previous Vision Gran Turismo concepts that were revealed, Lamborghini’s creation isn’t subtle in its appearance. The single-seater may look like a spaceship, but it incorporates a few elements of the company’s design DNA, including the Y-shaped light signature on both the front and rear lights, as well as the hexagon-inspired theme in the side windows that are inspired by the Marzal from 1968.
The cabin itself is accessed from the front of the car, where a hatch opens up just like on fighter jets, and is kept away from the fenders, similar to Formula cars. Other elements like the rear wing and various air channels that you see are dedicated to ensuring optimum aerodynamic efficiency.
Climbing inside, the main driving controls are located within the futuristic steering wheel, with all the necessary driving information projected virtually in front of the driver. There’s also a wraparound “halo” confining the driver, with additional controls that are within easy reach.
While the design is certainly out of this world, the concept uses the same powertrain from the Sian, which consists of a V12 engine augmented by an electric motor integrated into the gearbox and a supercapacitor to provide 819 PS (807 hp).
“Lamborghini is a very young brand, and this is why we are here today to present our newest virtual vision in the form of a real model, with a highly futuristic and cool design to be enjoyed by the young generation of racing game and super sports car enthusiasts,” said Stefano Domenicali, chairman and CEO of Lamborghini.
“The Lambo V12 Vision Gran Turismo is created to provide the ultimate virtual car for young fans and gamers, who are ultra-enthusiastic about Lamborghini and its futuristic aspirations,” commented Mitja Borkert, head of Lamborghini Centro Stile.
”It is an opportunity for the design talent within Lamborghini to stretch its wings and visualize a car that, like every Lamborghini, is a head-turner and the best driving experience, but also mirrors Lamborghini’s push on future technologies, particularly in the arena of lightweight materials and hybridization,” he added.
