A tragedy is leading the Australian state of South Australia to reform its driving licence scheme. This change will require drivers of high-powered sportscars to obtain a specific licence allowing them to drive such vehicles reports ABC News.
The incident, which occurred in the city of Adelaide in 2019, was caused by a driver losing control of his Lamborghini and hitting a 15-year old teenager, causing her death. The driver pleaded guilty to driving without due care but was acquitted of the more serious offence of death by dangerous driving.
South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas said the outcome of the case demonstrated “a need for law reform in the area”. Malinauskas said new road safety laws are being drafted and be introduced to parliament by year’s end.
The reform includes establishing a licensing scheme for drivers of high-powered vehicles, similar to motorcycle and truck graded licences. The revision will ban drivers accused of killing someone from holding a license until their case is resolved, and ban the disabling of traction control in high-powered vehicles.

Agree. We should do the same.
So many small you know what boy racers terrorising the public roads like Genting. These guys think they are Schumacher but actually they are nothing. Case in point, a certain loudmouth YouTuber from Miri, Sarawak who embarrassed himself at Sepang by crashing a borrowed racecar (t-bone) into an innocent racer. Funny because these guys like that driving a parking lot “time attack” or terrorising Genting actually translates to proper driving skills.
We can see that double standards towards the rich aren’t just a Malaysian thing but common all over the world and more acutely in those First World countries that harp on equality and justice for all.

That sounds like a pretty good measure we could use here, actually. The threshold should probably be defined by power-to-weight ratio instead to factor in modified vehicles as well. Enforcement though is probably gonna be a real challenge.
Why not standardized the law to all states in Australia?
Motorbike liscence based on CC
Lorry liscence based in size
Where is the Car liscence category?
Based on size is totally recommended too.
E.g less than 1.8m x 4.8m, or more than 1.8m x 4.8m.
The standard car park length, only 4.8m.
Beyond this, only hailak or large saloon, suv, mpv.
If I can drive as fast as I like with this super-license then I am all for it. If it is just another license/permit so that government can find more ways to tax people, then I’m against it.
This should be done ages ago, not everyone can handle such raw power without any special lesson and proper training. A rich person that can afford such car doesn’t mean he/she can handle the car.
