Modified motorcycles in Malaysia will be seized

Police would like to remind Malaysian riders modifying their motorcycles beyond what is allowed by the law will result in not just a fine, but also seizure of the vehicle. Under Section 64 of the Road Transport Act 1987, police has the power to seize an illegally modified vehicle or detain the vehicle till remedial work is performed.

This is over and above the penalty that will be imposed for flouting the law, which is up to RM2,000 or not more than six months in jail under Section 103 under the Vehicle Regulation Act (Manufacture and Use) 1959 LN 170/1959.

In a social media post from the Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (JSPT) Ampang Jaya, Kuala Lumpur, several seized motorcycles are seen with modifications to the swingarm and exhaust as well as narrow section tyres. Defining modifications in this instance as alterations to the original structure of the vehicle, police remind riders not to do so or face the penalty.

  • PDRM & JPJ should also work on the registration number plates. Many do not conform to the allowed font and size. Some bikes have the numbers hidden under the rear mudguards and cannot be seen by others.

    • Gomorrah on Nov 30, 2022 at 7:33 pm

Agree. Goes for all vehicles. There is an easy solution, but vested interests have hampered it so far. JPJ has to be the sole manufacturer/supplier/issuer of the plates which are stamped metal plates. Keep revenue within the government, assured of compliant plates with whatever regulations are set. Need a new set of plates – go to JPJ, verify ownership, valid registration/insurance then only plates issued. If not, pay all fees/fines first. If missing plates, must be accompanied by police report, otherwise return the old plates before new plates issued. Revenue for government, reduce need for enforcement activity since no need to have operasi xyz just for checking conformity. Can instead work on catching and defecting illegally modified vehicles/overloaded and poorly maintained vehicles. But you knowla…all those accessories shops making number plates sure bising one…

Even now, restaurant patrons are happily smoking right under the “no smoking” sign because they know Malaysian authorities only talk a lot but there won’t be enforcement

Going to low cost apartments is easier to find PLENTY OF MOTORBIKES, rather than u go to housing areas or bungalows lot to find 1 illegal Ducati.

PDRM should conduct a check at Jalan Pudu Impian. There are plenty of regular extremely noisy modified motorcycles and cars exhaust. Some of the noisy motorcycles are residents of the nearby PPR whilst the rest are normally from the delivery services. The noise at all hours of the day (even past midnight) is very disruptive to the nearby school and the residents.

A simple question. How much government gain profit with both business deal (export Vs summon) every year?

For me the first thing they should do is BANNED all the accessories shop that provided all those modified parts, “cut the snake head first” fined and close all those shop first then when the supply is cut off then the demand will drop, after all time they only take action to the owner but they’re who provide them with the parts just escape the laws…no justice.
