Driver refuses to pay RM15 to jaga kereta for public parking space in KL, comes back to a scratched car

The issue concerning parking touts, or jaga kereta, isn’t new, with enforcement not really eliminating the presence of these individuals. The problem isn’t confined to just the Klang Valley, but as recent incident showed, it’s quite rampant in certain areas in the city, and it can also get ugly.

As highlighted by the New Straits Times, a woman discovered that her car was scratched after refusing to pay the RM15 fee demanded by jaga kereta for parking in a public spot in the Bukit Bintang Maybank area.

In a TikTok video, user @ballerina391 detailed the incident, stating that the touts threatened her for not paying them for the parking spot. They also apparently told her that all the parking spots in the area was “theirs,” and they had set a price of RM15 for each car using those spaces.

Because she refused to pay them, the woman said she came back to find a long scratch on the door of her car. Her post received comments from other netizens, who said they had also faced similar payment requests in the area. Sometimes, nothing happens when you don’t pay, but as this situation shows, touts can be vindictive and exact retribution.

The call for authorities to act and tackle the jaga kereta issue has also been done before, but even if it does work, it only does for a while, with the pests appearing again when enforcement dies down. • AI-generated Summary ✨

Comments highlight widespread issues with illegal parking touts or jaga kereta in Malaysia, especially in KL, threatening vehicle owners and demanding RM15 fees. Many feel enforcement is ineffective due to corruption, low penalties, and authorities being paid off or inactive. Several suggest harsher penalties, regular monitoring like CCTV, and more proactive enforcement to eradicate these illegal activities. Some commenters also mention the complicity of officials and the need for citizen-led efforts, such as taking photos or installing dashcams. A few express sympathy for marginalized groups like Rohingya refugees, while most agree that the current system fosters a protection racket benefiting both touts and corrupt officials. Overall, the sentiment is frustration with the existing enforcement failures and calls for strict, consistent action.

We do not have enough jails, sometimes enforcement try to tolong and human rights activist try to protect thugs. We are very much like Detroit. It’s only safer because we don’t issue guns legally.

In some bigger countries, these communities parasites are totally removed from societies. To have a civilized and successful country, enforcement and penalties need to be more severe. For example one of the biggest nation in the world is filled with cctv, capable police force and heavy deterrent for crime offenders.

In Malaysia, it’s normally settle when crimes are committed. Even if convicted, the jail term is mediocre even for offenders that has committed the crimes a few times.

Many studies. (Inaction) Then more and more studies continue to be done (More Inaction) but it’s time to stop studying and start producing result. The culture of giving excuse for things left undone, giving all kind of excuse why it cannot be done, the culture of bagi masa, needs to be eradicated.

So many countries has overtake Malaysia economically despite being backwards than us 50 years ago. They work hard for change and overtook us. Let’s achieved great success for Malaysia Madani and ensure it’s not just another propaganda.

If they parking thugs is afraid to be caught or afraid to be punish, will they still scratch the car? The only reason that he or she dares to do it is because of the monetary rewards, the low probability of being convicted and the mediocre punishment.

Touts are public robbers, causing public unrest could cause physical abuse when dealing with certain group people. They should be punished accordingly. Or DBKL to impose 24 hrs parking ticket/no free parking tru contractual means. These parking touts should beapprehended and punnished, before it gets any uglier.

Enforcement authorities are solely to blame for this conundrum affecting Malaysians. The authorities must conduct an ongoing process of monitoring this menace and not resort to once in a while attempt to weed out the rascals from doing it again. After all the authorities are paid to do this.It is sad to note that lawful citizens can be threatened to pay for parking their vehicles. It does not take much for the authorities to be proactive rather than reactive. It is as simple as that.
