2024 Ops Hari Raya Aidilfitri – 42 buses barred from operating; 6 drivers banned for prohibited substances

The implementation of 2024 Ops Hari Raya Aidilfitri has seen a total of 42 buses issued Vehicle Use Prohibition Notices (PG1) for violating technical regulations, Bernama has reported. The total of 42 buses were filtered out from the 3,799 buses which were inspected at 54 bus depots and 28 bus terminals, said JPJ senior enforcement officer Datuk Lokman Jamaan.

“All 42 buses committed various dangerous technical offences and were not allowed to be on the road,” said Lokman, adding that the bus operator personnel have been barred from providing services to passengers.

Action was also taken on operators of 77 buses, of which 47 were issued summonses for offences including not having a competent driver license (CDL), driver misconduct such as mobile phone use, and not having a second driver. Six bus drivers were also banned from driving on suspicion of consuming prohibited substances after failing urine tests.

“The bus operators will be called up and a complete investigation report will be submitted to the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) for action under the Land Public Transport Act 2010. JPJ will also suspend the drivers’ licenses under Section 36 of Act 333, after further confirmation is obtained from the national anti-drug agency (AADK), Lokman said.

Meanwhile, 84 JPJ officers had travelled undercover on buses, and 62 cases of offences including dangerous driving were recorded. These undercover checks will continue until April 20, while strict enforcement will continue to be implemented, JPJ senior enforcement officer Lokman said.
