Geely to launch next-gen Thor PHEV system soon – 2,000 km CLTC hybrid range; FC under 3 l/100 km

According to a report by CarNewsChina, Geely will soon launch its new generation ‘Thor’ plug-in hybrid system soon, with the upcoming Galaxy Starship 7 expected to debut the technology. ‘

Speaking at 2024 World New Energy Vehicles Congress (WNEVC), Geely Auto Group CEO Gan Jiayue revealed the Thor PHEV system will feature an engine with a thermal efficiency of 46%, offer a combined hybrid range of over 2,000 km and a fuel consumption of below three l/100 km.

As revealed by China’s ministry of industry and information technology (MIIT) earlier this month, the Galaxy Starship 7 will feature a BHE15-BHF 1.5 litre engine that is rated at 111 PS (110 hp or 82 kW). This is more powerful than BYD’s DM 5.0 PHEV system that is fitted to the latest Song Pro, which also has a 1.5 litre naturally-aspirated engine making 101 PS (99 hp or 74 kW).

Keep in mind that these figures are for the internal combustion engine alone. The Song Pro DM-i’s PHEV system also includes an electric motor rated at 163 PS (161 hp or 120 kW), with the powertrain capable of a hybrid range of up to 1,400 km (CLTC) and fuel consumption as low as 3.79 l/100 km.

Geely also claimed to have the world’s first ultra-high-performance drive motor test bench with a speed of up to 30,000 rpm covering voltage platforms up to 1,200V. The company also showed off its Aegis lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery at the event.

Now this is something worth considering. If it is priced right here in bolehland. Even if doesn’t achieve 2k km in real world conditions, but close to 50-60% of claimed mileage range would be still good enough. Price is probably the killer here.
