The Chery Tiggo 8 Pro e+ facelift was shown at the just-concluded MITI Day, following on from the electrified SUV’s public preview at the Malaysia auto show earlier this year. This time, though, it’s displayed in its latest facelifted form, which brings about a lot of visual changes.
More than just a facelift – though it does get a new front end, including updated headlights – the 2025 Tiggo 8 Pro adds on pop-out door handles and even a completely different interior. The dash is entirely new, with a pair of free-standing screens and a higher, more upscale centre console.
Curiously, though, the unit shown in Malaysia appears to wear the regular “face” of the facelift, instead of the PHEV-specific one we’ve seen in China. This isn’t be the first time faces are swapped around for Chery in Malaysia, as our Tiggo 7 Pro actually wears China’s PHEV bumpers (hence the blue highlights).
Displayed in left-hand-drive form at the MITI event, the Tiggo 8 Pro e+ features the 1.5 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine from the Omoda 5, rated to produce 156 PS and 230 Nm of torque, assisted by two electric motors which are integrated into the three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT). Combined, this hybrid powertrain makes 326 PS and 545 Nm of torque.
The China-market Tiggo 8 Pro e+ is offered with two sizes of battery, the larger of the two being a 19.27 kWh unit enabling up to 80 km in purely electric driving. The PHEV variants support up to 29 kW DC fast charging and up to 6.6 kW AC charging, and this 19.27 kWh battery-equipped variant can also support V2L electricity supply at up to 3.3 kW.
According to Chery, this PHEV has nine operating modes – single-motor pure electric, dual-motor pure electric, series and extended range mode, direct engine drive mode and parallel drive mode. Though named to distinguish between single- and dual-motor operation, the Tiggo 8 Pro e+ is purely front-wheel-drive.
Other modes pertain to energy recuperation, and these are parking and charge mode, driving and charge mode, single-motor brake energy regeneration and dual-motor brake energy regeneration.
Chery Malaysia has previously revealed that the Tiggo 8 Pro e+ will arrive in our market in locally-assembled (CKD) form, as the petrol-powered Tiggo 8 Pro has been from launch. Though there is yet to be an official launch date, the appearance of the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro e+ facelift should mean that would be taking place sooner rather than later.

The Chinese car companies are wasting no time to bring their EVs and hybrids to Malaysia. Yet, I see UMW-Toyota still dragging its feet in bringing in the updated Toyota Corolla Cross and/or the Yaris Cross. Not interested to do business anymore in the wake of the Chinsese invasion? Haha.
This middle kingdom is going to treat and flood car market like mobile phone. New model every few months. Products are more like pakai buang. Low RV, if any.
