Recently we reported on JAC Motors’ plans to invest in Malaysia, with minister of investment, trade and industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz saying on Facebook that the company intends to make Malaysia an ASEAN hub for the production and export of commercial vehicles, including pick-up trucks.
The first of these to arrive is expected to be the T9. According to a spec sheet flyer we got our hands on, this bold-looking load-hauler could be offered in a single spec, at least in the near term, with notable features such as a 360-degree HD camera, 64-colour ambient lighting, wireless phone charging, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and a 10.4-inch vertical infotainment screen.
The flyer also apparently reveals Evolvelectric Motors to be the local JAC Motors distributor – according to the website, which is under construction, Evolvelectric Motors was incorporated in October 2023.
Where safety is concerned, Level 2 ADAS is touted, including active cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, lane change assist and blind spot monitor. The airbag count is seven. These all contribute to a five-star Australasian NCAP (ANCAP) safety rating.
For propulsion, the JAC T9 uses a 170 PS/410 Nm 2.0 litre CTI diesel engine and an eight-speed ZF auto, driving all four wheels shod in 265/60 R18 rubber. Available body colours are red, black, dark grey, silver and white, while warranty stands at five-years/300,000 km.
Known in its home market of China as the JAC Hunter, where the model was first launched in 2021, the T9 you see here is in fact the facelifted model, unveiled in 2023. It launched in Australia and South Africa (where it gets a different grille, gallery below) earlier this year.
