Rumour has it the Suzuki DR-Z400S is coming to the Malaysia, perhaps by mid-next year. During a conversation, we have it on good authority this dual-purpose thumper will be sold in the Malaysia market at or around the RM30,000 price point.
Additionally, there may be two variants made available locally, in dual-purpose configuration as well as the DR-Z400SM motard, though this bit of news was a little harder to confirm. What is obvious the local importer and distributor, Suzuki Malaysia, is expanding its product mix by going off the beaten track.
The Suzuki DR-Z400S has been a staple in the Hamamatsu motorcycle maker’s catalogue since 2000. Popular in the US market, the DR-Z400 has also seen service with the Australian army as a scout vehicle and mobility multiplier for fast response troops.
The liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, DOHC engine used in the DR-Z400S displaces 398 cc and produces 31.8 hp at 8,400 rpm with a maximum torque of 24.3 Nm at 5,800 rpm. Fed by a Mikuni BSR36 carburettor, the DR-Z400S comes with electric starting with a five-speed gearbox and chain final drive.
Front forks are telescopic for the DR-Z400S, with adjustable rebound damping while the rear monoshock comes with adjustable spring preload and damping. Weight is listed as 144 kg with 10-litres of fuel in the tank while seat height is set at 935 mm and ground clearance is 300 mm.
Finally a real motorcycle, tired of china junk on wheels..
If this comes in to Malaysia with that price this will be one of the good news in a slew of bad news we’ve had all year. Finally a proper legendary motorcycle without greedy corporation price tag.
Can they at least put EFI and 6-speed gearbox? I mean, even in the states people are bitching about that.
At least they have fcktons of aftermarket parts for it. I doubt we have neither the aftermarket parts nor the expertise for it. It’s almost 2025, just do it like Honda and use one of their sportsbike engines and tune it or something. People would use RMZ if they’re really serious about MX/enduro anyway.
