Among the bevy of models launched by Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) at its ongoing ‘Luxury Like No Other’ event are the Mercedes-AMG GLE63S and GLE63S Coupe. This is the first time the top-dog V167 and C167 are being offered in Malaysia.
Priced at RM1,191,888 and RM1,229,888 respectively, OTR before insurance, the facelifted duo carry a 612 PS/850 Nm 4.0 litre twin-turbo M177 V8, a 22 PS/250 Nm Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) and a 48-volt electrical system, making them mild hybrids. The starter and alternator functions are combined into a single electric motor positioned between the engine and transmission, enabling hybrid functionalities such as boosting, recuperation, load point shifting, sailing, and seamless engine restarts during the start/stop operation.
On the dynamics front, there is an electronically-controlled limited-slip diff, AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel drive and AMG Ride Control+ air suspension with adaptive adjustable damping. 0-100 km/h is done in 3.9 seconds and top speed is 280 km/h thanks to the AMG Driver’s Package, while AMG Track Pace gives you lap, sector and acceleration times plus selected live telemetry data.
Exterior-wise, the GLE63S and GLE63S Coupe feature Multibeam LED headlights with Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus, and ride on 22-inch 10-twin spoke forged alloys, through which peek red brake callipers and internally ventilated discs. At the back you can see revised LED tail lamps courtesy of the facelift and a selectable AMG Performance exhaust system. Unique to the GLE63S Coupe is an AMG spoiler lip. You also get the AMG Night Package, which includes exterior elements like high-gloss black mirror caps and trim strips to complement your dark chrome tailpipes.
Inside, you’ll find a panoramic sunroof, a head-up display, ventilated seats, AMG Exclusive black Nappa leather upholstery paired with AMG carbon-fibre trim, a flat-bottomed AMG Performance steering wheel, 13 Burmester speakers, plus ambient lighting with animated AMG logo projection.
The latest MBUX is here too, with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and there’s also MBUX Augmented Reality Navigation, which superimposes graphic navigation and traffic information on live images on the media display. Warranty is four years with unlimited mileage.
