Local automotive electronics and mechatronics solutions provider Multi-Code Electronics, through its wholly-owned subsidiary, MCE Ventures, has announced it has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Chinese firm Nanjing Chuhang Technology to develop and market automotive millimeter-wave (mmWave) radar units that will be manufactured in Malaysia. These will be supplied to global markets, excluding China.
In a statement, MCE and Chuhang said they will form a new company to leverage their combined strengths. Chuhang will bring its technical expertise to the venture, including technology transfer, product development support and assistance in establishing a production line in Malaysia.
Meanwhile, MCE will establish a manufacturing facility at its upcoming MCE Auto Hub in Serendah, which is set to be operational by the second half of next year. It will also use its extensive network to tap into opportunities in both domestic and overseas markets.
In addition to manufacturing, MCE said the partnership will also focus on taking up research and development functions, working on both the software and hardware aspects of mmWave radar systems, which are an essential component for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and automated driving applications
Founded in 2017, Chuhang is a pioneer in mmWave sensing radar technology with a pre-research centre in Stuttgart, an R&D headquarters in Nanjing and manufacturing bases in Shanghai and Anqing. The firm has established partnerships with major automakers, including Audi, Volkswagen, Toyota, Leapmotor, Chery, Great Wall, Dongfeng and VinFast.
