Xpeng has revealed its self-developed Turing AI chip which it plans to deploy in its future products, including cars, flying cars and even robots. As reported by CarNewsChina, Xpeng CEO He Xiaopeng said he believes artificial intelligence will play a big role in changing a role, and he wants his company to be a pioneer in that field.
During his presentation at the recent AI Day event, He said the new chip features a 40-core processor that can run large models with 30 billion parameters locally. Additionally, there are also two integrated neural processing units (NPUs) as well as a domain-specific architecture for neural networks. He added that a single Turing AI chip has the equivalent capability of three Nvidia Orin X or two Tesla FSD chips.
The new chip will enable something the company calls AI Car Safety Plus while also enabling independent safety islands and real-time detection of vehicle safety. This sees two independent image signal processors (ISPs) that are said to be able to cope with poor light situations such as dark nights, rainy days and backlights.
With all that processing grunt, Xpeng claims it will no longer need a separate chip to handle the human-machine interface (HMI), with the Turing chip able to handle smart driving features as well as other car systems. Different versions will be developed depending on purpose, with cars said to get at least three of these chips in the future.
