The BYD Sealion 7 has been sighted in Port Klang on a transporter trailer ahead of its Malaysian market launch, as posted to the paultan.org Automotive/Car Discussion Group on Facebook. The electric SUV from BYD will be launching in Malaysia on November 14 this week, while bookings for the Sealion 7 have opened on November 6.
So far, we know from prior details that the Sealion 7 for Malaysia will get up to 530 PS and 690 Nm of torque from its dual-motor AWD electric powertrain, enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint in 4.5 seconds and a NEDC-rated range of 542 km.
In terms of battery capacities, the Hong Kong market model receives a 82.56 kWh battery pack that takes charging at up to 150 kW DC and 11 kW AC, while the European market equivalent gets a 91.3 kWh battery that takes up to 230 kW of DC charging.
Elsewhere in markets such as Hong Kong, the Sealion 7 is also sold with a single-motor RWD powertrain which outputs 313 PS and 380 Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 6.7 seconds and a NEDC-rated range of 567 km on a full charge.
Just as its stablemate, the BYD Seal rivals the Tesla Model 3, so the BYD Sealion 7 will go up against the Tesla Model Y in Malaysia. Will it turn out to be as popular as its sedan rangemate?
