The Xpeng P7+ has made its launch debut in China and is off to a good start, with 31,528 orders received in a single day on November 8, 2024. Also set to be revealed at the upcoming Paris Motor Show in a few days, the P7+ is billed as a larger and cheaper version of the P7i – the latter being the rival to the Tesla Model 3 and BYD Seal.
In terms of size, the P7+ measures 5,056 mm long, 1,937 mm wide, 1,512 mm tall and has a wheelbase that spans 3,000 mm. By comparison, the P7i is 4,888 mm long, 1,896 mm wide, 1,450 mm tall and its wheelbase covers 2,998 mm.
The P7+ comes in three variants, starting with the Long Range Max that retails for 186,800 yuan (about RM114k), which is followed by the Ultra Long Range Max at 198,800 yuan (RM122k) as well as the Limited Edition Max at 218,800 yuan (RM134k). For context, the P7i starts from 249,900 yuan (RM153k).
All versions of the P7+ are rear-wheel drive and equipped with a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, with the cheapest variant getting a 60.7-kWh unit that enables a range of 602 km following the CLTC standard. This powers an electric motor rated at 245 PS (241 hp or 180 kW) and 450 Nm of torque, which is good for a 0-100 km/h time of 6.9 seconds.
The remaining variants get a 76.3-kWh battery for more range, with the carmaker quoting 710 km for the Ultra Long Range Max and 685 km for the Limited Edition Max. These options have a more powerful electric motor delivering 313 PS (308 hp or 230 kW) but peak torque stays the same at 450 Nm – the century sprint time is lower at 5.9 seconds.
According to Xpeng, the P7+ range supports 3C fast charging and can get from a 10-80% state of charge in 20 minutes. All variants also share the same top speed of 200 km/h and have a vehicle-to-load (V2L) system capable of 3.3 kW.
Keep in mind that these range figures will be revised in December this year, which is when the company will release an over-the-air (OTA) update. This will see the range figures increase to 602 km, 725 km and 700 km respectively.
Visually, the P7+ looks very similar to the smaller P7i, although it doesn’t have the option of a roof-mounted lidar sensor. Instead, the electric vehicle (EV) is the brand’s first to use the AI Hawk system that relies on cameras. The scissor doors of the P7i are also absent here, likely to keep the cost (and pricing) down.
Inside, the minimalist dashboard is home to a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch central touchscreen infotainment system. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P, which is claimed to be 50% more performant than the 8155 chip, powers the systems. Additional screens include one for the rear-view mirror as well as an 8-inch unit for rear passengers.
Other notable features include Nappa leather upholstery, powered front seats, all-seat heating and ventilation, a folding table behind the front passenger seat, a 20-speaker sound system, dual 50W air-cooled wireless charging pads and dual-zone climate control with rear vents.
Two Nvidia Orin X chips with 508 TOPS of computing power, along with a suite cameras as well as millimeter wave and ultrasonic radars drive the standard-across-the-range assistance systems. These include autonomous emergency braking, forward and rear collision warning, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, door open warning, lane keep assist, emergency lane keeping, traffic sign recognition, automatic high beam, driver monitoring and speed limit assist.
A quick note on the Limited Edition Max, which will only be offered in 500 units for China and comes with exclusive touches like a variant-specific green exterior, Alcantara upholstery, 20-inch black wheels and a special kickplate.

700+ KM range has become the new norm. all these cars look awesome, but the occasional news of getting fried is a bit disturbing. Well, it may not be all that bad, nevertheless, it’s a new technology with a long learning curve for all parties – manufacturers, drivers and policymakers. personally, I am reluctant to jump in as of now – call me old school…
