BYD recently held an event in China to celebrate its 30th anniversary as well as the production of its ten millionth new energy vehicle (NEV). The latter comes just a few months after its nine millionth NEV – a Yangwang U9 – rolled off the line in September.
The vehicle marking the latest milestone is a Denza Z9 belonging to Feng Ji, founder and CEO of Game Science, which is a video game company responsible for the popular Black Myth: Wukong.
Launched in China in August this year, the Z9 is offered as a sedan as well as a “shooting brake” wagon dubbed the Z9 GT. Both plug-in hybrid and fully electric powertrains are available, with exports planned for the NEV model.
In an official release, the Chinese automaker said it took 15 years for its to produce its first five million NEVs, with the next five million requiring substantially less time at just 15 months. It also claims to be the world’s first automaker to produce 10 million NEVs.
To build its success further, BYD will invest 100 billion yuan (about RM62 billion) to develop intelligent technologies that integrated artificial intelligence with automative systems. This is said to bring comprehensive upgrades to its entire vehicle line-up.
