Ford has officially confirmed that it will launch the Ranger Super Duty in 2026, marking the first time the ‘Super Duty’ moniker is used on a model outside the F-Series line-up of pick-up trucks. According to a release posted on the automaker’s Australian website, the upcoming Ranger Super Duty will be a “a new midsize truck that can do things no other midsize truck can do.”
Developed in direct collaboration with fleet customers, the Ranger Super Duty is said to deliver higher levels of gross vehicle mass (GVM), gross combined mass (GCM), towing as well as enhanced off-road capability when compared to standard Ford one-tonne pick-up trucks. It will be aimed to customers such as emergency service operators, farmers, utilities and forestry workers, miners, infrastructure technicians and many more.
“Ranger Super Duty blends the smart features and advanced safety of our award-winning Ranger with heavy-duty capability and delivers what our buyers told us they needed but couldn’t get anywhere else. This work-ready vehicle will give owners the flexibility they need to get the big jobs done, with the confidence of a factory-backed warranty,” said Sondra Sutton Phung, general manager of global truck at the Ford Motor Company.
The Ranger Super Duty was developed by Ford’s IMG product development team with a 1,500-strong group of designers, engineers and specialists in Australia, and will be manufactured in Thailand for sale in markets around the world.
In terms of key figures, the Ranger Super Duty has a maximum braked towing capacity of 4,500 kg, which is more than the current Ranger (3,500 kg) and equivalent to larger, full-sized models like the F-150, Chevrolet Silverado and Ram 1500. The GVM rating of 4,500 kg is also higher than the normal Ranger (up to 3,350 kg), while the GCM of 8,000 kg exceeds the 6,400 kg offered by Rangers with the 3.0 litre turbodiesel V6.
Ford did not mention chassis or suspension changes for the new variant, nor did it state how many body styles will be made available. Its positioning as a midsize pick-up truck suggests a similar size to the standard Ranger, which should make it easier to navigate in certain remote areas.
