The works ministry (KKR) has said 13 out of 33 highway concessionaries have yet to agree to the implementation of the multi-lane free flow (MLFF) toll collection system.
“We have 33 highway concession companies that needs to be concessioned using the MLFF method. The problem is that not all concessionaires agree, of which 20 concessionaires are in negotiations and another 13 have not yet agreed,” said deputy works minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.
“So, we’ll wait until December 16. If we don’t have an agreement from all 33 concession companies, we will make another proposal,” he added. The government is expected to finalise its decision on implementing the MLFF system by December 16 this year.
Ahmad Maslan said this when answering additional questions from Muhammad Fawwaz Mohamad Jan (PN-Permatang Pauh) in the Dewan Rakyat today. He also said the implementation of the MLFF requires the amendment of certain acts, among other things, to curb the actions of parties who avoid paying tolls.
“About 1.01% of road users don’t pay tolls, whether by hitting the toll boom gate, which is uncommon, or by tailgating. If there is a toll system where there are no toll booths as it is now, there will be more instances of those who don’t pay toll,” he said.
