Motorcyclist killed by lorry reversing from Bangsar South construction site – family seeks legal action

The family of a motorcyclist who was killed after being struck by a transporter lorry is planning to take legal action over the incident which occurred last Saturday (November 23, 2024), reports The Star and Sinar Harian.

The Kuala Lumpur police traffic investigation and enforcement department confirmed that the 32-year-old male victim succumbed to his injuries after he was hit by the lorry that suddenly reversed from a construction site. In a statement, it noted that the lorry driver, also a 32-year-old man, was refilling brake fluid for the vehicle before it suddenly reversed on its own.

The lorry then crashed through a safety gate onto the main road, causing the victim on a Modenas Kriss motorcycle to lose control while trying to avoid it. The rider fell and was dragged under the right rear tyre of the lorry, resulting in his death.

A Honda Jazz was also hit by the lorry, and its driver sustained a forehead injury. The incident happened at around 8.34am on Jalan Kerinchi, heading from Jalan Pantai Dalam towards Jalan Pantai Baru, in front of The Sphere in Bangsar South.

“We, as a family, plan to take legal action against the lorry driver who caused my brother’s death in the accident,” said the victim’s brother. On the same day of the incident, the lorry driver was detained, with the case being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Penalise the transport company. suspend the divers’ license. This is really bad and sad. He was just 32 years!

May his soul rest in peace, and may his family find comfort and solace during this difficult time.

Actions should not only be taken against the lorry driver, rather the lorry company boss, construction boss for failure to provide a safety surrounding. If can put these bosses to jail, that will send a message to the rest, otherwise nobody scare.
