Chery Omoda E5 gets 5 stars from Euro NCAP, ANCAP

The Chery Omoda E5 has earned the maximum five stars from both Euro NCAP and the Australasian New Car Assessment Programme (ANCAP).

The electric SUV maintains the five-star rating obtained in 2022 by its ICE-power sister, the Omoda 5, following additional tests including frontal offset and oblique pole crash tests to assess its overall safety performance and the integrity of its high-voltage battery.

In the Euro NCAP crash test, the Chery SUV scored 87% in the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), 87% in Child Occupant Protection (COP) and 88% in Safety Assist (SA). In the ANCAP, the scores are 87% AOP, 88% COP and 83% SA.

“With the announcement of the five-star rating for the Omoda E5, our consumers can be rest assured and confident of driving home a stylish EV, equipped with the latest technologies and top-tier safety features,” said Michael Chew, VP of Chery Malaysia.

Launched in March, the Omoda E5 has a front electric motor with 204 PS (150 kW) and 340 Nm, which pushes it from 0-100 km/h in 7.2 seconds. Top speed is 172 km/h. The battery is a 61 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) unit sourced from BYD, good for 430 km of range in the WLTP cycle. Claimed power consumption is 15.5 kWh per 100 km.

For charging, the E5 has a three-phase onboard AC charger with a max rate of 9.9 kW, as well as DC fast charging of up to 80 kW; the latter capable of getting the battery from 30% to 80% state of charge in 28 minutes. There’s also a vehicle-to-load (V2L) function for electrical appliances and devices. The Omoda E5’s RRP is RM146,800 on-the-road without insurance. CKD local assembly has just started at Inokom in Kulim, Kedah.
