A total of RM16.81 million has been allocated for the phased upgrade of all 11 KL Monorail stations, including RM6.81 million for automatic platform gates (APG) throughout and RM10 million for lift and escalator repair and maintenance, Bernama reports.
“APGs were initially installed in 2016, but the project faced delays due to technical issues and signal malfunctions, which prevented the gates from closing automatically. This posed a safety risk to commuters with 10 reported cases of people falling onto the tracks since 2017.
“We resumed the upgrade earlier this year, and now APGs are operational at KL Sentral and Tun Sambanthan stations. (APGs) at Maharajalela, Imbi, Hang Tuah and Bukit Bintang stations will be completed by the end of this week, while (those at) the remaining stations will be (done) by the end of the year,” transport minister Anthony Loke said, adding that repairs to all stations’ lifts and escalators are expected to be done by April 2025.
“We have received numerous complaints, particularly from the disabled community, regarding accessibility challenges due to faulty facilities. We are expediting the replacement of any damaged lifts to improve access,” he added.
Loke also said the government has awarded a contract to procure three additional monorail train sets. These are expected to arrive in 2026 and will cut train frequency from seven minutes to five.

Not only the coach itself, the stations are flawed as well
They should extend the monorail to old klang road perhaps until the Bukit jail stadium and maybe Pavillion.
