Jalan Gua Musang-Jeli collapses, closed to all traffic

Two problems arise when it rains continuously, like in the current monsoon season. The floods have been well-covered, and then there’s the landslides. This is KM35 of Jalan Gua Musang-Jeli in Kelantan, which has collapsed following heavy rain, and is now not passable to traffic.

According to Utusan Malaysia, the landslide occurred for 20 minutes from 11pm on Sunday night. Kampung Jerek rukun tetangga chairman Wan Zahari Wan Harun said that before the soil came down, constant rain caused overflowing of the drains in the area.

“Not long after the overflowing waters subsided, the edge of the road had gradual erosion before the big landslide for 20 minutes, which caused a big crater,” he told reporters yesterday, adding that the route is not passable even on foot. “We were lucky because we sent our children to live in the school hostel earlier, especially those who had to sit for SPM,” he said.

It is reported that the closure of Jalan Gua Musang-Jeli has affected over 3,000 residents of eight villages in the Jerek district, which depend on the road.

Elsewhere, there appears to be a full collapse of Jalan Aring-Gua Musang, as shared on the Urus Setia Penerangan Darul Iman – UPDI Facebook page. Earlier, JKR Hulu Terengganu issued a notice that the FT36 road was closed to all traffic due to a landslide, but it appears that the entire slope has now given way.

Terrible weather out there, but if you must travel, drive safe.
