In March last year, Waze announced that it had added an option to display electric vehicle (EV) charging station locations in the app. The feature was not available in Malaysia then, but it has now surfaced on the app here, despite Malaysia not being listed as a supported country for it on Google’s official page, as The Star reports.
It can be enabled via the app’s settings. Users only need to navigate to the “Driving preferences” section in the settings menu and tap on “Vehicle details”. There’s an option to enable a user to add an EV as a vehicle under the particular section.
They can then select the suitable charging connector for their vehicle rom a list of seven different types, which will then be used to provide them with the locations of charging stations that are compatible with a specific vehicle.
As reported previously, the charging point data will be updated by local Map Editors in the Waze Community. While most EV users utilising public charging points are likely to search for suitable charging locations via dedicated charging apps or PlugShare, the feature is a handy addition to those who use the navigation app.
