Three-vehicle crash on PLUS highway in Alor Gajah leaves seven dead – bus collided with tyre from trailer

A multiple vehicle crash on the North-South expressway near Alor Gajah at 8:40pm last night claimed seven lives and injured 33 persons was caused by a tyre that had detached from a lorry trailer, reported New Straits Times.

Vehicles involved included a tour bus, two lorry trailers, an MPV and a car, said Alor Gajah district police chief Ashari Abu Samah. Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the trailers involved was travelling in the same northbound direction as the tour bus, when the bus collided with a lorry trailer tyre that had detached and come to a stop in the middle of the highway.

“The impact of the crash caused the bus driver to lose control of the vehicle, which skidded into the opposite lane and collided with a Perodua Bezza. The collision caused the car to swerve into the left lane and hit the road barrier. The bus then crashed into another trailer and an MPV carrying a family of eight,” Ashari said.

The incident resulted in the deaths of the bus driver, a bus passenger, along with the driver and four passengers in a Toyota Estima, who were pronounced dead at the scene at KM204 of the North-South Expressway near the Ayer Keroh rest and service area (R&R).

Remains of the deceased were taken to Melaka Hospital for post-mortem, and all vehicles involved in the incident have been detained and will be sent to Puspakom for inspection, Ashari said. “The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he added.

  • All these lorries have many problems and nobody is taking action to prevent it. Overloading, rethreaded tire, loose stuff.

Accidents like this one, could have been prevented if the NSExpressway was better lighted. As of now, I remembered the roads after Negri to wards Melaka are unlit and dark. ALso to make matters worse, the road lines are faded and has no catseyes.

Anthony Loke sleeping on the job. He only knows how to sell number plates and allow pitch black tints that benefit law breakers and criminals.

Mr Anthony Loke and Team, what have you got to say? Enough is enough. How many people have to die before you come to your senses? Don’t tell us you need to come up with a report that takes months to complete. Human life is precious. ACT NOW!

  • U know what? This isn’t a first case and it won’t be the last one. Tyres from trailers are so damn common, dark road, no lamp post, black tyres. What do you think will happen? So many times such incident happened but lorry drivers aren’t even punished. Tyres blew up, at least try to remove them, report to plus and get help as soon as possible. But what happened? Nothing. They leave the tyre there like it was nothing.
