Tesla to source battery cells from Eve Energy, Kedah?

Apparently a Malaysian factory will soon supply batteries for Tesla cars, if reports today turn out to be accurate. Listed Chinese battery company Eve Energy announced that it signed a deal to supply an American customer with battery cells sourced from its Malaysian subsidiary Eve Energy Malaysia.

Eve Energy did not name the customer in its announcement. Chinese media LatePost reports that this American customer is in fact Tesla, and supply is said to be scheduled to begin in 2026.

Eve Energy Malaysia has a brand new battery manufacturing facility in Padang Meha, Kedah which it inaugurated earlier this month. Once fully operational, the plant is expected to employ 2,000 Malaysians.

During the launch, it was mentioned the plant would serve customers in the power tool and two-wheeler sectors across Southeast Asia, Europe and North America. Looks like four wheelers might be added to that list, or perhaps the cells could be used for Powerwalls too.

Earlier this year we posted that Tesla was hiring battery cell supplier industrialisation engineers, with candidates set to be based in Malaysia, specifically in Perai. This Eve Energy deal would explain the need for that role.

Bad timing to be late into the industry as EV starting a downturn. Even Neta Thai is laying people off.

The Kedah government is doing something right. They are pulling in investment more than Pakatan states such as Pulau Pinang and Selangor. No corruption case some more.
    Greater Kedah indeed.

Many may not know who EVE battery maker is but they are definitely one of the TOP 10 in the world. They make really good LFP lithium iron, definitely better battery than LG or Panasonic but kalah a lot to CATL and BYD in terms of stability and reliability. Still good enough for good budget EV models. Can charge to 100% capacity without any problem
