AC Cars has revealed that the V8-powered AC Cobra range of Roadster and Coupe models will be joined by a 2.0 litre version from 2026, reported Pistonheads.

While the existing iteration of the two-seater is powered by the 5.0 litre Ford Coyote V8 engine, the new powertrain specification – described as a ‘performance oriented’ unit – will offer power in the region of 395 hp. Two variants of this 2.0 litre engine will be offered, and it will be paired with a choice of six-speed manual or dual-clutch transmission, according to AC.

This will position it below the Ford Coyote V8 in output terms, as the 5.0 litre unit is rated to make 456 PS in naturally aspirated form, 730 PS from a supercharged version, and up to 810 PS in limited-run Clubsport guise; the V8 can be paired with either a six-speed manual or 10-speed automatic transmission.

The publication cites AC Cars as saying that the new 2.0 litre powertrain is the result of working “in conjunction with a global leader in hybrid and internal combustion powertrain solutions” to “suit the characteristics and potential that the GT platform delivers,” it said, without naming its engine supplier outright.

In addition to receiving the smaller capacity engine, the upcoming version of the GT Roadster and Coupe will gain wider use of carbon-fibre in its construction compared to the existing V8 versions, according to the publication, while more details on the model are expected in the spring of 2025.
