Touch ‘n Go eWallet to launch SOS Balance – prevents users from getting stuck at tolls due to baki kurang

For years, we have been calling on Touch ‘n Go eWallet to offer a “pay later” function to prevent road users with insufficient balance or baki kurang from getting stuck at toll plazas and causing congestion. Well, our prayers look set to be answered, as the payment service is set to introduce an SOS Balance feature that is basically everything we have asked for, as unearthed by BFM News on X.

As the name suggests, SOS Balance puts a temporary hold on toll fees being charged on the eWallet, allowing users who have unknowingly run out of credit to pass through the toll plaza as normal. Users will simply need to reload their eWallet within 24 hours and any outstanding fees will be automatically deducted from their balance. In its support website for the feature, TNG eWallet said that only toll payments are supported for now, although more services will be added soon.

There are caveats, of course. Initially, SOS Balance will only be offered to “our most loyal users” who have consistently demonstrated they have cleared all outstanding payments promptly, frequently reload their eWallet and actively use their eWallet for transactions. Eligible users will be enrolled automatically and notified via a push notification on their phones.

The service will also be suspended once the 24-hour grace period (activated from the first time SOS Balance is triggered) is up, and users will need to reload their eWallet to continue using SOS Balance. The good news is that TNG eWallet will not charge any additional fees or interest on top of the delayed payments.

Users can check their outstanding SOS Balance toll payments by tapping on either the car icon at the top of the app’s main menu or on a notification displayed below your eWallet balance. Just like your eWallet, SOS Balance only works at toll plazas with RFID lanes or have PayDirect enabled; in other words, it won’t save you if your TNG card balance is low.

As yet, it is unclear when SOS Balance will officially be launched. We will, of course, be on hand to provide you with the latest information on the service as and when we get them.

    • Yes! It really frustrating, it causes unnecessary jam at the toll booth due to last minute reloading and they also need to reverse their car to get into the “top up” lane” and this also causes all the car behind to reverse as well!!

Excuses excuses… Weakling. What’s the use of free toll and subsidies if the country declines and more companies move out and we all lose jobs? That’s what it will become if you vote wrongly.

        • While I don’t disagree with your comment, I wonder who else could we vote for next? Do we want to see Muhyddin and PAS back in power? Didn’t we see enough damage done by them in recent years? Sadly, we don’t have good politicians in any party.

Don’t be surprise that this doesn’t solve the problem fully.

There will still be some stubborn people who ignores the outstanding claiming that they don’t know and continue to block the road at tolls because they did not settle their outstanding charges.

RFID is not meant for highways but for office parking lots

    RFID =
    Reverse
    Forward
    InsyaAllah
    Detect

  • Definitely this wont solve the problem, it will become worst when peoples will tend to misused this feature.
Lot of times those driving luxury cars often faced the Baki Kurang situation, dont mentioned about the normal car, a lot of users tend to be innocent when come to toll booth with Baki Kurang, start panic or langsung tak rasa malu, then just ON the double signal and sit inside the car, when approach them, tunai pun tiada….how to reload?
Nowaday lot of Highways already can use Debit or Credit Card to pay toll, why still need this kind of feature, isnt it is the responsibility for road user to have sufficient amount of money before they start they journey?
Perhaps people will say, not everyone is rich enough to reload lots of money inside the e wallet, but until when government still provide this kind of nonsense ideas? If cannot pay toll then dont use highway use the federal road instead. Wasting other road users time to wait and stuck behind…

Instead of this, a fine should be imposed. Just open the gate with a fine for smooth traffic.

  • How about having more RFID lanes? LDP has one dedicated lane + another lane that shares with TnG/debit card. What’s the point? TnG is really useless.

It is the granting of a temporary overdraft for to enable toll payment. Good idea.
