Targeted highway toll fare exemption for B40, M40 groups on festive seasons being reviewed: PM Anwar

Targeted highway toll fare exemption for B40, M40 groups on festive seasons being reviewed: PM Anwar

The Malaysian government is working on a targeted approach towards providing highway toll fare exemptions during festive seasons, prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has said, reported Bernama.

According to the prime minister, toll fare exemptions should only be provided to those of the B40 and M40 income demographic groups rather than everyone.

“Some have raised the issue of why the toll exemption is for everyone, even [wealthy owners of] luxury cars benefit, so perhaps we should be even more thorough to ensure that the lower-income groups are given special consideration,” said Anwar, who is also the finance minister.

“This is being refined. Works minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi has only outlined the basic principles, stating that we cannot continue to subsidise everything like electricity and fuel,” Anwar continued.

Earlier this week, works minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi announced that the government would no longer offer highway toll fare exemptions for festive season holidays starting this year. Yesterday, deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that the offering of toll fare exemptions during festive seasons do not solve the issue of traffic congestion on highways.

So target to save 20%? But then u will have to spent millions to get it to work. I guess the goal is not save 20%, but to start a new project that will benefit themselves. No one pointed a gun and asked for free toll. Suddenly the t20 becomes the topic again wtf!

Seriously another subsidy for B40 ? Traveling on highway is not a daily essential. Once in a while only you travel balik kampung . This over subsidization has to stop. Pls help in a more meaningful way like upscaling their skill or provide higher income employment opportunities.

You donkeys need to think why free toll was given during festive holidays. Is it because of the jam, so you people give it for free so people will be comforted? Or you people try to buy votes out of nothing??? But with the rate you people keep on harping on issues like the rich are enjoying the subsidies will only make you looked more stupid by days as the rich are paying the most taxes to feed your luxury lifestyles and you people have contributed nothing meaningful to the country till now. You can start to look at all your promises!!!

If one can justify to travel outstation, toll fees is a small percentage of the entire expected expenses.

So, they can actually afford it, clown !

    Wise up YB(s)

MY is fast becoming a caste country where everything or everyone is categorised according to income level.

Stop giving subsidies to all then, dont waste resources in doing nonsense classification of people.
