Perak police have identified 21 accident hotspots ahead of this year’s Chinese New Year celebration, Bernama reports. Perak acting police chief DCP Zulkafli Sariaat said the hotspots include KM114-KM117 Jalan Ipoh-Butterworth, KM17.5 Jalan Ipoh-Kuala Lumpur (Lubuk Buaya), KM1 Jalan Teluk Intan-Bidor and KM16 Jalan Teluk Intan-Hutan Melintang.
Additionally, 43 traffic congestion hotspots have also been identified with the expected increase in the number of vehicles during the festive season. “They include the Slim River Toll Plaza traffic light, KM73 Jalan Teluk Muroh-Sungai Wangi near the Kampung Lumut Kiri traffic lights, Jalan Ipoh-Kuala Lumpur (Gopeng Toll Plaza) and Pekan Selama,” said Zulkafli.
To ensure smooth traffic flow and the safety of road users, a total of 250 police personnel will be on duty in the state during Op Selamat 23, which will run from January 28 to February 2.
Zulkafli added that six traffic offences have been identified as the main contributors to road accidents during festive seasons, namely speeding, illegal use of the emergency lane, overtaking on a double-lined road, queue cutting, beating the traffic lights as well as using a mobile phone while driving.
