The Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) will be keeping an eye on express bus ticket prices as Hari Raya Aidilfitri approaches, transport minister Anthony Loke has said, according to a Bernama report.
He said APAD will take action against any drastic or unreasonable price increases, and that express bus companies have been given the green light to impose a 10% festive surcharge.
“Express buses for the festive period are allowed (to impose) a 10% surcharge and that is normal, (it) has been implemented for years. However, APAD will monitor if there is any unreasonable or drastic increase and we (the ministry) will take action through APAD,” said Loke.
The transport minister had said in March last year that the 10% express bus festive surcharge, which is allowed to be imposed up to a week before and up to a week after the festival day, is justified as factors like additional bus service capacity and payment for bus hire had to be taken into account.
