JPJ is warning the public to not fall for a ‘deactivated driving license’ scam that’s circulating via SMS. Written in English, the text message, which sender appears as ‘MyJPJ’, warns that “Your driving license will be deactivated. To restore, please check details,” followed by a link.
The road transport department says that this is a phishing attempt and that JPJ has never sent out links regarding driving licenses to the public via SMS. One must not click on such links.
“The public is advised to always be cautious with any platform that offers unauthorised JPJ services to avoid scams and financial losses. The public must first refer to JPJ and contact the department for further information,” a press release from yesterday stated.
Complaints can be sent to the official JPJ portal. Do share this with older and/or less tech savvy members of your family, who might be more susceptible to phishing attempts posing as the authorities.
