Four temporary R&R stops to be built on Central Spine Road (LTU) to cater for road users this Hari Raya

Some welcome news for motorists using the Central Spine Road, or the Lingkaran Tengah Utama (LTU) expressway, to return to their hometowns this Hari Raya Aidilfitri, with the Pahang state government announcing the setting up of temporary rest and recreation (R&R) stops along the four-lane dual-carriageway.

According to state MB Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, four rest areas will be built next week between Bentong and Kampung Relong, Lipis, in anticipation of increased traffic volume on the LTU during the festive season. The temporary rest areas will be in operation five days before Aidilfitri, the New Straits Times reports.

Two wil be located in Bentong (both directions), while one will be in Raub and the other will be near Kampung Kechau Tui in Lipis. He said that the four temporary stops, which will cost RM2.5 million to build, will be equipped with mobile toilets, washrooms, garbage bins and parking areas.

“We have requested immediate assistance from the federal government with the construction of the four rest areas. If there are delays, the Pahang government will start work using our funds before claiming the allocation from the federal government,” he said.

Wan Rosdy said the construction of the temporary rest areas was mooted after the state government received a lot of complaints from road users that there were no restroom facilities, baby diaper changing rooms and huge parking areas for motorists to rest. The LTU has no rest stops or petrol stations along the route.

He added that although temporary, the four R&R stops will help enhance the comfort and safety of road users. “Something is better than nothing, so we will soon have temporary rest stops along the LTU and road users can utilise them until the construction of the permanent stops is completed by the works ministry,” he said

“I hope the previous episodes involving reports of littering along the expressway will not happen this year and road users will adhere to the rules. I hope the new facilities along the LTU will ensure a smoother journey for those using the stretch during the Aidilfitri festive season,” he added.

Traffic Jam, Aging road users, need more toilet stops. Older persons have prostate, or bladder control issues, and the rest areas do not have sufficient toilet. So the concessionaires like LTU, PLUS, and others should put temporary toilets every 20km, with clear safety markings, so road users (older persons, kids, pregnant women, etc) could use it. When massive road congestion takes place, the distance between current rest areas take a long time to reach.Hence the need for tem, porary toilets, like on those put up when major soccer games are held.
