BMW sold more EVs than Mercedes-Benz and Audi combined in 2024 – 368,475 units, 16.7% of total sales

BMW saw a surge in electric vehicle (EV) sales in 2024, delivering 368,475 units to customers globally. This figure represents a year-over-year (YoY) increase of 11.6% from the 330,197 units reported for 2023, while also making up 16.7% of the 2,200,217 total units the brand delivered in 2024.

This result places BMW firmly ahead of Mercedes-Benz and Audi, both of which reported a decline in EV sales. In the case of Mercedes-Benz, the 185,059 EVs its delivered last year is 23% less than the 240,668 units sold in 2023. The Stuttgart-based automaker delivered a total of 1,983,403 units in 2024, of which about 9.5% were EVs.

As for Audi, it sold 1,671,218 vehicles in 2024, with 164,480 units being EVs. The Ingolstadt-based company said in its release that EV sales in 2024 was 7.8% less than the 178,429 units in 2023, with the latest figure indicating EVs made up just 9.8% of total sales in 2024.

The brands’ financial reports also included figures for plug-in hybrids, with Mercedes-Benz leading the way with 182,551 units delivered in 2024 (9.2% of total sales), which is 13% more than the 161,275 units in 2023.

BMW is second in terms of PHEV sales with 164,172 units (7.5% of total sales), a YoY decline of 5.6% from 173,838 units in 2023. Meanwhile, sales of Audi PHEVs hit 88,148 units, or about 5.2% of its total sales. It should be noted that all three brands reported lower global sales in 2024 compared to 2023.

Chinese DNA is creeping into Mercedes. The design and quality are getting worst. This is why it’s losing market share slowly to BMW worldwide. Audi is in its own world.
