The transport ministry has reiterated that authorities will enforce a nationwide road ban on goods-carrying vehicles for four days spanning the peak travel period during the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive season.
During the period, which will be from March 29 to 30, which is before Raya, and from April 5-6, which is when people will be making their way home after the public holidays, heavy vehicles will be restricted from being on the road.
In a statement, the ministry said that the move is aimed at preventing traffic congestion and reduce the risks posed by heavy vehicles mixing with private cars on what is certain to be congested highways. It added that to ensure compliance, the road transport department (JPJ) will deploy officers nationwide to carry out enforcement through its Op Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2025 as well as through joint operations with other agencies.
As reported previously, the road ban will apply to three categories of heavy vehicles, with varying restriction periods. Vehicle types under Category 1 will be fully restricted from being on the road during the four days, while Category 2 vehicles are banned from 8pm to 8am, and Category 3 construction vehicles are barred from 6pm to 6am within a 25 km radius.
Commercial vehicles carrying goods that are not specifically mentioned in the chart above are allowed to use the roads as normal during the ban period, as are heavy vehicles and mobile cranes providing emergency services.
In addition to the goods-carrying vehicle ban, the ministry said that a temporary speed limit reduction on all federal roads nationwide will be in effect from March 28 to April 6. As it has been during past festive seasons, the speed limit on federal roads will be reduced by 10 km/h, from 90 km/h to 80 km/h during the period.
